We’re kicking off our spring events by welcoming Jean Hynes, CFA, Managing Partner and incoming CEO at Wellington Management. Hynes, joins us for a fireside chat to discuss her career path, plans for the first 100 days as CEO and having to balance the responsibilities as CEO and leading the Vanguard Health Care Fund. As the first female CEO to lead the firm, Hynes will share her perspective on building her career in a male-dominated industry along with steps Wellington is taking towards diversity and inclusion. We’ll also be discussing a range of topics making waves in the industry including COVID from a healthcare portfolio manager perspective, what Wellington is doing within the sustainable investment space, private markets and more.

With 30 years of experience, Hynes’ accomplishments have gained recognition from the industry. She was named to Barron’s 100 Most Influential Women in US Finance in 2020 and The Hedge Fund Journal’s 50 Leading Women in Hedge Funds in 2018. Speaker Bio:

Jean M. Hynes, CFA, is one of Wellington’s three managing partners, who are responsible for governance of the Wellington Management partnership. Throughout her nearly 30 years at the firm, she has researched the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, as well as served as a health care portfolio manager and leader of the health care sector research team. She serves as the chair of Wellington’s Executive Committee and is the sponsor for the Wellington Women's Network. On July 1, 2021, Jean will succeed Brendan Swords as chief executive officer. Hynes joined Wellington Management upon her graduation from Wellesley College (1991), where she was awarded a BA in economics. Additionally, she holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of CFA Institute and CFA Society Boston. She is also a member of the Investment Committees at Wellesley College and the Winsor School.  


Moderator Bio:

Jeremy Heer, CFA, is the senior portfolio manager for the Strategy group at the University of Chicago’s Office of Investments. In this role, he supports the managing director of Strategy in developing and managing the overall investment strategy for the endowment. Heer also helps manage the global macro portion of the University’s hedge fund portfolio. He has previously served as the senior portfolio manager for the University’s investments in private equity limited partnerships. Prior to joining the University in 2010, Heer was a partner at Singer Partners, where he designed and implemented global macro and asset allocation strategies. Previously, he was an asset allocation analyst at UBS Global Investment Management (2004-2009) and Morgan Stanley Investment Management (2003-2004). Heer also has worked in risk management and derivatives-related roles for Morgan Stanley and Cargill Investor Services.

Heer earned an MBA with concentrations in finance and statistics from the Stern School of Business at New York University and a BS in finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a CFA charterholder, a grader of the exam, and a contributor to the curriculum. He is a member of CFA Society Chicago’s Board of Directors and previously served as the co-chair of the Society’s Distinguished Speaker Series Advisory Group. Heer also holds the CAIA Charter and serves on the CAIA Allocator Advisory Committee.
