Evolution of Corporate Engagement

The Rise in ESG and Decline in the Pandemic is Changing the Relationship between Corporate Management and Investors

Hosted by: Education Advisory Group

Sitting across the table from the management team of a current holding or a potential investment has long been a crucial part of the investment process. As the pandemic subsides, our panelists will discuss their views on how corporate engagement will evolve from the current virtual world back to a combination of face-to-face meetings and ongoing virtual interactions.

Perhaps an even greater impact on the evolution of corporate engagement will be the increasing prominence of ESG analysis. Investors have been requesting ever greater amounts of information and transparency from corporations to not only identify issues, but how executives plan to mitigate these risks. More recently, many asset managers have brought on board professionals that specialize in sustainability management to complement their financial analytical teams. These same managers are now beginning to actively use their shareholder votes to influence corporation behavior.

  • Review how the relationship between investors and corporate management teams changed over the past year and discuss how that relationship is expected to evolve as the pandemic subsides.
  • Expectations regarding the mix of in-person vs virtual meetings in 2021 and beyond.
  • Learn how the increased emphasis on ESG and sustainability has altered buy-side information requests and actions.
  • Provide an outlook on how an increase of shareholder activism will be used to influence corporation behavior.
