Are you looking to learn about careers in private debt? This market has grown tremendously over the past years with Chicago becoming a major hub. Hear from three CFA charterholders and senior members at firms engaged in various parts of the private debt marketplace. We will kick off the event by introducing the firms and their role in the private debt space and then move to a discussion of growth areas within private debt. Finally, our panelists will share their views on the direction of the market and the different career paths available. If you have any questions about working in this space, this will be your chance to ask them as our panelists will take questions from attendees to close out the event!

Speakers:

Dave Bernbaum, CFA, rejoined Golub Capital in 2018 and is a senior vice president on the Middle Market Lending team. He is responsible for underwriting, executing and monitoring investments for the Firm. Prior to this position, Bernbaum worked at NXT Capital and was a vice president in the Corporate Finance group, where he executed and monitored senior debt investments. Prior to that, he worked at Golub Capital as an assistant vice president on the Direct Lending team, where he assisted with the underwriting and monitoring of investments for the Firm. Prior to that, he worked in Livingstone Partners’ Debt Advisory practice, where he advised clients on debt capital markets transactions.

Bernbaum began his career in the Fixed Income group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Bernbaum earned his BS degree in finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign. He received an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is a CFA® charterholder.


Theresa D. Mozzocci, CFA, joined Maranon in 2014 with experience in fundraising, investor relations and alternative investment strategies. At Maranon, Mozzocci is primarily responsible for fundraising and investor relations. Prior to joining Maranon, Mozzocci was a managing director at Cantor Fitzgerald Investment Advisors. Mozzocci’s previous experience includes Pluscios Management, Crestline Investors, ABN AMRO, William Blair & Company and Duff & Phelps.

Mozzocci earned an M.B.A. with distinction from the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business, DePaul University and a B.B.A. in operations management from the University of Wisconsin. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst. She is also a certified yoga instructor.
 

Jason Wendorf, CFA, is a managing director of First Eagle Alternative Credit’s Direct Lending platform, where he leads their originations effort in the Insurance & Financial Services industry as well its Midwest Sponsor coverage. He is responsible for originating, structuring and executing new investment opportunities and is a member of FEAC’s Investment Committee for the Business & Financial Services vertical. Wendorf has been a member of First Eagle and its predecessor companies since 2011, when he joined NewStar Financial (acquired by First Eagle in December 2017). Prior to NewStar, he was a director in the Corporate Finance Group at CapitalSource Finance, where he focused on originating and executing senior and second-lien debt facilities, primarily in the media, communications, and business services industries. Wendorf also served as an assistant vice president at GE Capital (formerly Heller Financial) in its Sponsor Finance Group, where he was responsible for underwriting and monitoring general industry credits. He began his career assisting clients on a wide variety of business valuation engagements in the Corporate Value Consulting Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Wendorf earned a BBA degree from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business.

John Ide, CFA
, is a managing director at Star Mountain Capital responsible for new business development, investor relations, new product launches and brand building. Star Mountain is a specialized asset management firm focused on the U.S. lower middle-market by investing debt and equity into established operating companies. Prior to joining Star Mountain, Ide was managing director, investor relations at Deerpath Capital Management. Ide also spent over 20 years at JPMorgan Asset Management where he was a managing director and client advisor responsible for advising US institutional clients including public and corporate pension plans and endowments and foundations on JPMorgan Asset Management’s public equity, public fixed income, private equity, private credit, real assets and hedge fund capabilities. Before working in Asset Management, Ide was a director and corporate banker at Banc One Capital Markets where he provided corporate finance solutions to finance and leasing companies in the US. Ide began his finance career with First Chicago in a credit training program. He holds a BA in economics from Lawrence University and an MBA from Loyola University of Chicago. Ide is a member and volunteer at CFA Society Chicago and a Chartered Financial Analyst. He also is a board member and treasurer of Hephzibah Children’s Association.
