Ted Merz, CFA, Bloomberg's Global Head of News Product, joins us to talk about the biggest year for news in almost two decades and how the global pandemic is changing how many financial professionals monitor breaking news. Merz will also discuss how the surge in coverage is prompting traders and portfolio managers to turn to social media, as well as adopt tools to translate and summarize content in order to keep up with the onslaught.

Speaker Bio:
Ted Merz, CFA, global head of News Product at Bloomberg, oversees search and display for news and social media content on the Bloomberg Professional Terminal, news analytics and third party content deals. He has spent three decades at Bloomberg, the first 17 as a journalist. As product head he started First Word (a news summarization service), founded Bloomberg Brief newsletters (research driven periodicals on topics spanning PE, Hedge Funds, Economics, and more), and integrated Twitter to the Professional platform. As a journalist, Merz started the company's Emerging Markets coverage in 1991, ran the New York bureau, and oversaw Global Fixed Income and general coverage for the Americas. He has a B.A. in philosophy from St. John's College in Annapolis, and is a CFA charterholder. On a personal note, he’s very involved in philanthropy, and started a charity to send Nicaraguan high school kids to college.
